What bringing home one of our Basset Hound puppies looks like.
A Basset Hound puppy from us goes home at eight weeks, after a full vet checkup, with the records.
What Comes Home With an 8 Week Old Basset Hound Puppy
An 8 week old Basset Hound puppy goes home with a vet check, up-to-date shots, deworming, a microchip, AKC paperwork, and a starter bag of the food they’re used to. You get the records from that checkup. Before that day, our whole family has a hand in raising them.
Basset Hound Puppy Food: What They’re Already Eating
Basset Hound puppy food here is NutriSource Puppy Starter Plus. Puppies eat it, and so do moms who are pregnant or nursing. The grown dogs eat Tuffy’s Gold. We plan that nutrition with our veterinarian.
Pickup in Montgomery, or Delivery if You Can’t Make the Drive
Pickup is in Montgomery, alongside shipping, meetups and farm visits.
AKC Limited Registration and Our Spay/Neuter Agreement
According to the AKC, limited registration means the dog is registered, but no puppies it produces are eligible for AKC registration. Our puppies go home as companions on a spay/neuter agreement with limited registration. Breeding rights and full registration are available to the right home, worked out with us before your puppy goes home, not after.
Your First 72 Hours and the First Vet Visit
Take your puppy to a vet within 72 hours of pickup. That visit is part of what we ask, along with routine care and an eye on the back, including easy jumps and stairs while a puppy is growing. That first visit also starts your health guarantee, which spells out the time limits and what a claim covers.
Questions to Ask a Dog Breeder, and How We Answer Them
Here are the questions to ask a dog breeder before you bring a puppy home, and how we answer each one.
Are you USDA inspected?
Yes. USDA inspected. License number on request. USDA licensing is a regulatory baseline, not a USDA endorsement.
Can we see the records?
We're happy to share the most recent USDA inspection and the full care log for any puppy we offer.
When does money change hands?
No money changes hands until we've talked. Once we've talked, a deposit holds your puppy.
Does an application reserve a puppy?
No. An application doesn't reserve a puppy. The written agreement covers the deposit, the pickup plan, the health guarantee, the registration transfer, and the spay/neuter terms before money changes hands.
What if a covered health problem shows up?
The remedy is a replacement puppy from a future litter, and you keep the dog. A claim needs the vet's written diagnosis plus spay/neuter proof. We will always take one of ours back. State rights stay in place, and the signed agreement governs.
Are the parents AKC registered?
Yes. Every parent page lists AKC registration.
Every one of our moms and dads has a page with their color, age, and temperament. When you’re ready to tell us about your home, the application is the next step.
